Info and Background
David Brems, FAIA,
LEED
David Brems is a founding principal of Gillies
Stransky Brems Smith in Salt Lake City and Fort Worth. He
is
director of design for GSBS, receiving local, regional, national,
and international design awards. Brems was
PIC for the award-winning 2002 Utah Olympic Speed Skating
Oval, which was published in the journal
Nature, discussing how building and athletic performance is
enhanced through the incorporation of
sustainable concepts. The Oval holds 9 of 10 world records
and was one of the first LEED-certified
buildings. Brems is an occasional adjunct professor at the
University of Utah College of Architecture &
Planning and has long been a proponent of integrating design
with sustainable concepts, especially natural
light. He won the 2003 NCMA Award of Excellence for his Emigration
Canyon House. Brems also serves as
chair of the AIA Committee on Design (COD) in 2006 as COD
focuses on the design side of sustainability.
